If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy a scenic ride through Yellowstone National Park without the noise or smell of motorized vehicles and crowds, now is your chance to do so. The 49-mile stretch between Yellowstone’s West and North entrance is now open to cyclists only until April 18.
As Yellowstone National Park crews prepare for the busy summer season, the road won’t be completely free of traffic. Administrative vehicles and construction vehicles, including heavy equipment and plows, will be alongside cyclists through the time period. Cyclists are required to ride single file on the right shoulder of the road and follow all the same traffic laws as automobiles.
Can’t make it in the coming weeks? No worries, cyclists are allowed on stablished public roads, parking areas, and designated routes in Yellowstone National Park in the summer. In the spring and fall, bikes are allowed on some roads closed to regular vehicles when the conditions allow.
The only road open to both vehicles and cyclists year round is between the North and Northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The roads between the West Entrance and Mammoth, Madison and Old Faithful, and Norris and Canyon all open to motor vehicles on April 18.
