Coronado National Forest, Arizona— Few people know about the southernmost ski area in the country. Located around 41 miles outside downtown Tuscon, Mount Lemmon Ski Valley has been a community staple since the late 1940s. It sits at approximately the same latitude as Dallas, Texas is only about 80 miles from the border with Mexico.

The ski area is known for its varied terrain and diverse food offerings, including 10 different flavors of homemade fudge. During the offseason, it remains open for scenic chairlift rides, which showcase the incredible views. This five-minute video covers Mount Lemmon Ski Valley geographical uniqueness, the ski area’s history, experience, and challenges due to its remote location.

Mount Lemmon is currently operating but is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you looking forward to a bit of fudge with your skiing, make sure to call first because the fudge shop may or may not be open due to staffing shortages.
