Sugarloaf's Skyline on a windy day.
Sugarloaf's Skyline on a windy day.

If you’ve ever been sitting at the bottom of a ski resort, enjoying the nice weather, and wondering why the lifts closer to the top are still closed, let this video of Sugarloaf‘s Skyline chairlift shared by Ian McKendry stand as proof that it’s probably for a good reason.

Sometimes (especially on the East Coast, in my experience) the weather at the bottom of the mountain seems very calm while the weather at the top of the mountain. You can’t really be that surprised when the base elevation is 2,820 feet lower than summit elevation.

So hold your complaints when your favorite lift is closed. I’ve sat on that exact lift on windy days and it can be quite a terrifying experience, and that’s when the lift is still open. Stuff stays closed for a real reason, and trust me, you don’t want to be on that lift when the wind is gusting that fast.
