Sweeden — Many abandoned ski areas exist worldwide, each with its unique story.
One example is Svanstein (also known as Pullinki) in Sweden. Called by Swedish Lapland TV as “an unknown resort in need of some love,” it’s become abandoned during the 2020s.
In a 2023 Joona Päätalo skied and stayed overnight at this abandoned ski resort in Sweden. Originally intending to visit Svanstein for a ski trip, he discovered it was shuttered. After returning home, he decided to go on a ski vacation there despite it not being operational. Why 50 hours? No clue but it’s an entertaining video with some witty humor.
While there, he stays overnight in the abandoned hostel, snowshoes up and skis down the slopes, and explores some of the abandoned infrastructure.
I’ve searched high and low but haven’t found much information about its history. In the 2010s, two snowboarding legends, Ingemar Backman and Johan Olofsson, purchased it. However, due to the pandemic, it closed in 2020 and didn’t reopen.
Apparently, a new owner purchased the mountain with the intention of reopening it. It didn’t operate for the 2023-24 season but aimed to reopen for this upcoming season.
