Meet 96-year-old Alex Ryvlin who is a diehard skier and makes the 1-hour drive from his Minneapolis apartment to Welch Village Ski Resort several times a week. The folks from KARE11 caught up with the spry nonagenarian on his 30th day this of the 2024/2025 ski season and he had this to say about his passion for the sport.
“The ski brings me everything. Happiness, health, and fun.” -Alex Ryvlin
Alex hails from Russia where he began skiing as a teenager. He later worked as a researcher on a nuclear ice breaker and where ever he sailed, his ski went with him including two trips to the North Pole. Alex skied professionally for a time and became a coach for aspiring Soviet Olympians.
Alex immigrated to the United States in 2001 and this year marks his 24th year skiing at Welch. Fascinating man and a true inspiration to anyone hoping to continue skiing deep into their senior years.
