Gondola evacuation at Winter Park.
Gondola evacuation at Winter Park.

Ski patrollers at Winter Park Resort in Colorado were forced to rope evacuate 174 guests from the main gondola after a rocker arm that connects two sections of tower had bent and cracked. No injuries were reported from the incident. It’s not exactly clear when the gondola will be up and running again, but work is underway to get it moving.

Skier Alexey Dmitriev filmed the entire experience and shared it to his TikTok, from the first time they were told that they’d be evacuated to the very end, when Dmitriev finally made it to the ground. It’s a pretty fascinating series of videos, and it really illustrates the skills and professionalism behind the ski patrollers at Winter Park.

One of the big things I notice through the clips is the way the patroller listens to, respects, and answers all of the question’s that child had. He’s going to have quite the vacation story to tell his class mates when school returns!
