Vernon Township’s Mountain Creek Resort has announced they are opening on Saturday and are crediting their earliest opening day in years with to their $5 million investment in a state-of-the-art automated snowmaking system.
“Winter arrived early this year and our team has been working around the clock to ensure the resort is ready to take advantage of it and get the season started for our guests.  It’s great to see this investment in snowmaking already paying dividends.” –GM Evan Kovach
The system upgrade was comprehensive with the replacement of old snowmaking pipes, hydrants, and pump stations. Mountain Creek also installed 40 new energy-efficient fan guns. This switch to automated snowmaking allows guns to turn on and off automatically when temperatures allow for snowmaking:
“This will give us a significant advantage in the future especially in the early season, and times of marginal snowmaking weather conditions, allowing us to not only produce more snow in shorter weather windows, but also reduce our overall energy consumption associated with snowmaking operations.”

We are beyond excited to welcome you back to the mountain starting this Saturday, December 7th, starting at 9 AM, with top-to-bottom terrain at BOTH Vernon Peak and South Peak, and YES! there will be features.
Here’s everything you need to know for Opening Weekend:
Hours:
Saturday, December 7th: 9 AM – 9 PM
Sunday, December 8th: 9 AM – 9 PM (Passholder Early Access at 8 AM!)
Vernon PeakÂ
Lifts:Â Cabriolet, Sugar Quad, and Learning Area Carpet
Trails: Upper Horizon, Lower Horizon, Cab Ride, Learning Area and Sugar
South Peak:
Lifts: South Peak Quad Express
Trails: Canyon, Lark, Lift Line, The Gulley and Lift Line

After this weekend, the mountain will be closed Monday, December 9th – Thursday, December 12th to put the finishing touches on the rest of our winter season preparations. But don’t be scared—we’ll get you all back on snow starting Friday, December 13th!
Mountain Creek Snowmaking Fun Facts:
- 100% of resort’s trails are covered with snowmaking
- Snowmaking is fed by seven mountaintop lakes which minimizes energy consumption and allows for the resort to use gravity to feed the system
- Over 1,000 snowmaking machines on property
- In ideal weather conditions, Mountain Creek can produce 3.5 Million cubic feet of snow in 24 hours, enough to cover 80 acres of trail (or to fill 1,000 tractor trailer containers)
