Mikaela Shiffrin newest reindeer "Rori" short for Aurora Borealis

The Finnish ski town Levi has made a name for itself by awarding the most unusual prize on the World Cup Tour, a baby reindeer. After careful consideration Mikaela Shiffrin has decided on a name for her newest reindeerย after taking home the top spot at the annual World Cup slalom event in Levi, Finland.

Mikaela’s newest pet will go by “Rori” short for Aurora Borealis and join her growing herd of reindeer which now numbers at 8. Her win in Levi marks her 98th career Alpine skiing World Cup victory.

“Meet โ€œRoriโ€ short for โ€œAurora Borealisโ€โ€ฆwhich I was so excited to see for the first time earlier this week!! What a day yesterdayโ€ฆcongrats to Katharina and Lena Dรผrr for some amazing skiing, and my teammate Paula for a PB at Levi! This venue is always a special one for me, and the timing always makes me reflect about all the things Iโ€™m grateful forโ€”my family, team, this sport, the fans, my sponsors, Santa , etcโ€ฆand it was extra special to be able to have my brother and sister-in-law here this weekend. We were all thinking of Matilde Lorenzi and skiing in her honor.”

The cutest prize in alpine skiing

With her win in Finland, Mikaela has 12 more World Cup wins than any other skier in World Cup history. She is off to Gurgl, Austria next weekend for another slalom race and will return home to Killington, Vermont for a giant slalom and a slalom on November 30th through December 1st. Congratulations to Mikaela and Rori.
