Eldora Mountain Resort is one of the most accessible ski areas for Denver and Boulder area skiers and snowboarders. Just a little more than an hour from the city, those heading up to the mountain can completely avoid the pain of I-70 while enjoying a pretty stunning drive. Despite its position on the Ikon Pass, Eldora tends to feel very local. The mountain’s newest lodge, the Caribou Lodge, will make the mountain more accessible than ever.
The new Caribou Lodge is a 12,000-square-foot building, set to house both the resort’s ski school and the nonprofit Ignite Adaptive Sports. The nonprofit is the only adaptive sports program accessible via the Denver Regional Transportation District’s public transportation system, providing snowsport opportunities to people with disabilities. They were founded by 10 University of Colorado students back in 1975, making the 2025 season their 50th year in operation at Eldora.
To celebrate and open the new Caribou Lodge, Eldora and Ignite Adaptive Sports is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony this Wednesday, October 30, at 2:00pm. The building will serve as the new World Headquarters for the nonprofit, allowing them to host even more athletes than in the past. The organization has previously worked out of double-wide trailers.
“This state-of-the-art facility features accessibility upgrades and will allow us to serve even more athletes. YOU made building our new home possible. Come celebrate with us!” – Ignite Adaptive Sports
Ignite Adaptive Sports serves over 300 athletes every season, logging 15,000+ volunteer hours with a team of over 250 volunteers. In 2009, the organization expanded to serve wounded active duty and military Veterans, and has continued to do so since.
