Norwegian alpine skierĀ Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (Mikaela Shiffrin‘s fiancĆ©) will not be competing in ski racing this year as his recovery from a brutal crash at the World Cup downhill race in Wengen, SwitzerlandĀ back in January continues. The racer shared an explanation of his recovery and where he stands now to his Instagram, mentioning first that he does not plan to retire.

Kilde’s recovery was apparently going quite well until June, when he began to feel something off in his shoulder. In July it was determined that he had an infection and surgery was needed. Unfortunately after two to three weeks on antibiotics, the infection continued.

Two more surgeries and six weeks of antibiotics seem to be working and his shoulder seems to be recovering from the infection. However, as the infection was eating at his bones, the hardware in his arm needed to be removed, preventing a full recovery from his original injuries. Two muscles are still not fully attached at this point, and another surgery will be required to reconstruct everything.

According to the video, Kilde believes he’ll need three to four months of rehab before his shoulder is recovered. He will not be competing this year, though, again, he notes that he does not plan on retiring.

Kilde will likely still make appearances at a few races throughout the year, potentially showing up to watch his fellow ski racers and, of course, his fiancƩ Mikaela Shiffrin.
