Park City, Utah — While it may not seem like it, Utah ski resorts require snowmaking. Park City Mountain Resort, which features many slopes at lower elevations than Snowbird and Brighton, has an extensive snowmaking network that helps it open in November. Park City has doubled down on modernizing its snowmaking network to prepare for the likelihood of warming winters.
This offseason, Park City Mountain Resort has added an automated snowmaking system to Chicane and Another World. Chicane connects skiers and riders from the Red Pine Lodge to the Tombstone Express, Over and Out, and Timberline chairlifts, while the Another World piste goes around the outskirts of the Tombstone Express terrain pod.

On Chicane, 13 new fan guns have been added. Over on Another World, 8600 feet (around 1.63 miles) of new snowmaking pipe and 46 automated snowguns were added. These automated snowmaking systems are more energy efficient and help lead crews to better capitalize on short snowmaking windows.
Next up on the PCMR pipeline is a new gondola that will connect Canyons Village to Red Pine Lodge. Initial work commenced this summer, and the gondola is expected to debut during the 2025-26 season. A new parking garage in Canyons Village is also planned.
Park City’s projected opening date for the 2024-25 season is November 22nd.
