UNITED STATES – The “Countering CCP Drones Act”, targeting the sales of DJI drones in the United States, initially passed in the U.S. House of Representatives back in June as a part of the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a huge military spending bill. The U.S. Senate’s version of the NDAA is yet to pass, but the inclusion of the “Countering CCP Drones Act” seems uncertain.

During the so-called “China Week” earlier this month, the House of Representatives passed 25 pieces of legislation aimed at protecting the American government and people from military, economic, ideological, and technological threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party. The “Countering CCP Drones Act”, sponsored by Republican Elise Stefanik of New York and Chairman John Moolenaar (R-NY) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, was one of those bills.

The “Countering CCP Drones Act” moves to place the Chinese drone company Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI) on the FCC’s Covered List, potentially prohibiting approval and operation of future drones produced by the company. Bill supporters argue that DJI Technologies is liked to the Chinese Communist Part and/or the Chinese military, posing a threat to American citizens and the American government.

While the bill was passed by the House, it still needs to make its way through the U.S. Senate and onto the desk of the President of the United States before it can become a law. The “Countering CCP Drones Act” was received by the Senate on September 10, read twice, and referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
