TAMARACK, Idaho – Tamarack Resort, which suspended operations earlier this week as the Lava and Boulder fires grew nearby, will reopen on Friday, September 13, as weather changes have managed to slightly slow the burns.

According to the resort’s social media pages, heavy rain on Wednesday and forecasted heavy rains on Thursday have restored the resort’s confidence in their ability to operate. The situation with the Lava and Boulder fires will continue to be closely monitored, and any further changes will be announced, once again, on their social media.

We will continue to work with local authorities and monitor the fire south of the Resort closely. If there are any future changes to Resort operations, we will update our social channels and website in real time.

Early in the morning on Wednesday, around 10am, smoke was clearly visible on the resort’s mountain webcam, but by around 2:30pm, the smoke had been visibly replaced by heavy rainfall. By 6:45pm, the storm had cleared and the air appeared quite clear. The webcam has not updated since 1:50am last night (as of 8:30am Thursday).

The Lava and Boulder fires merged on Monday, September 9, for a combined acreage of 78,457 acres. Several areas in Gem County and Adams County have been evacuated, while many still sit on Level 2 “SET” of the “READY, SET, GO!” guidelines. At last update on Wednesday, the Lava and Boulder fires had grown to 93,781 acres, with just 6% containment. Information on evacuations can be found here.
