GRAND COUNTY, Colorado – Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) announced another wolf death on Thursday, stating that they first became aware of mortality signs on adult male 2307-OR’s collar on September 9.
“While this is sad news, these types of restoration efforts consider anticipated mortalities in our planning and a degree of wolf mortality, just like for any wildlife, is expected both during restoration efforts and on an ongoing basis.” – CPW Director Jeff Davis.
The wolf was confirmed dead on September 10. 2307-OR was one of the 10 released into the state by CPW in Grand County back in December 2023. CPW states that, as wolves are federally listed under the Endangered Species Act, they are working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on next steps.
Another male adult, 2309-OR, died earlier this month after Colorado Parks and Wildlife captured the Copper Creek pack. The remaining wolves in the pack, one female and three pups, were captured in relation to livestock depredation incidents in Grand County. The remaining four will be re-released when deemed ready.
