Bridgton, Maine – Pleasant Mountain’s game-changing offseason project is taking shape.
This offseason, the Summit Triple (originally from Loon Mountain) is being replaced by a detachable high-speed quad. The chairlift will travel 1000 feet per minute with a vertical rise of 1220 feet. The Summit Express will have an uphill capacity of 2400 people per hour. The ride time will be 4.5 minutes, half the time of its predecessor. Unlike its predecessor, there will be no mid-station. The chairlift is the old Jordan Express from Sunday River, which was removed in 2022 to make way for the Jordan 8 bubble chairlift. Some chairlift additions change the way the mountain skis (like Attitash’s Mountaineer Express last winter), and Pleasant’s Summit Express will undoubtedly be part of that group.
Pleasant Mountain has provided a couple of recent updates. This past weekend, they showed the progress on the top terminal. Looking closely, you will see hints of its past life in the Jordan Bowl.
This week, Pleasant Mountain shared two updates on the project. The first shows photos of helicopter crews and workers on the mountain installing the lift towers. Oh yeah, it’s all coming together.
Their video update yesterday shows the process of installing the towers. Excellent song choice, by the way.
According to the Storm Skiing Journal & Podcast, the Summit Express is scheduled to open at the start of the 2024-25 season.
