Czech professional rock climber Adam Ondra traveled to Mammut Sports Group AG’s main headquarters in Seon, Switzerland where he was joined by Quality Engineer Tommaso Zambonelli and Junior Product Engineer Gregoire Baclet to explore the rigorous product testing of Mammut climbing gear.
The dependability of climbing gear is very much a matter of life and death and you will be relieved to see what pressures it takes to make harnesses, ropes and quickdraws explode under pressure. Adam was reassured that “we can actually trust the Mammut gear 100%” but also wants to remind folks “safety while climbing is not only about the gear; it’s mainly about us because the human factor is the most common source of climbing accidents.”
“We are meeting climbing gear engineers and developers and conducting proper gear testing. So you can watch harnesses, ropes and quickdraws being tested, find out when you need to buy new ones and see the real explosions.
The video provides you with a lot of helpful information and a nice assurance that we can actually trust the Mammut gear 100%. And that’s great because climbing is not that much fun if you are scared.
Ultimately, safety while climbing is not only about the gear; it’s mainly about us because the human factor is the most common source of climbing accidents. So enjoy your climbing, try hard, but always stay safe.”
