Aron Anderson on the side of a mountain.

SWITZERLAND – Swedish climber and inspirational speaker Aron Anderson started using a wheelchair after undergoing treatment for a large tumor in his lower back discovered when he was just seven years old. Since then, he’s turned towards climbing and sport throughout his life, climbing Sweden’s tallest mountain, Kebnekaise, and Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. Recently Anderson turned towards Switzerland’s Matterhorn in an attempt to become the first wheelchair user to summit the mountain, and to raise money for the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund.

Sadly, poor weather forced Anderson and his team to turn around at the Solvay Hut, but he’s certain he can make it up if all factors allow, and he’s already looking to return next year. Nonetheless, the climbing and mountaineering that Aron is doing, in addition to every other sport he partakes in, is incredibly impressive. Plus, his fundraiser has raised 225,612 Swedish Kronas (~$21,900 USD), and it’s still ongoing. If you’re interested in donating, you can do so here.

The Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund, aimed at researching childhood cancer and supporting victims, puts 81% of donations towards their causes. 61% goes towards research and education, while 13% goes towards advice and support. Only 4% of donations is put towards administration.

Anderson takes part in a host of different activities, from paragliding to kayaking to cross country skiing. He’s also an incredibly impressive swimmer, and has the Swedish record for the most parachute jumps in 24 hours (145). I’d say there’s a pretty good chance he’s more athletic than you. He recently did a TEDX talk on how he manages to stay grateful and positive through some seriously tough times.
