OREGON CITY, Oregon – We all loved climbing trees as kids, but some people never escape the desire to ascend the giant plants. For those who find themselves needing to get to the top of the biggest tree in the neighborhood, but need a little help doing so, Tree Climbing Planet offers a host of educational tree climbing lessons around the world.
Founded in 2010, Tree Climbing Planet is based in Oregon City, Oregon, just around fifteen miles from Portland. Their basecamp has around 150 acres of natural, wooded lands to climb, camp, and explore. They refer to the activity as ‘inspirational tree climbing’, as they wish to encourage it not as a sport, but as a way to connect with the tree. Based on their website, inspirational tree climbing is beneficial as a meditation practice, and good for physical health.
While their home base is in Oregon City, Tree Climbing Planet has taught in locations around and outside of the Untied States. They’ve taught in Fremont, NE, Atlanta, GA, and Maui, HI. They can also do lessons in the Amazon Rainforest, with special arrangement, in addition to locations in India, Mexico, Costa Rica, Denmark, Peru, Canada, and much more.
They also offer a ton of different course types. Their most popular is Basic Tree Week, which provides students with a five day course on basic tree climbing skills and philosophies. Only have a few days? Their basic tree climbing course is just two days long. There are courses on tree top camping, courses on arial rescues, courses on treehouse building, and so, so much more.
Their one day intro course costs $300 and takes eight hours, while Basic Tree Week, a five day course, costs $1,500. Pretty cool if you ask me!
