Utah — In the latest sign that Utah’s ski industry is snowballing, the two biggest ski lift companies are expanding their presence in the Beehive State.
TownLift reported last month that Leitner-Poma of America opened a 130,000-square-foot manufacturing building in Tooele, Utah, on June 21st. While the company is based in Grand Junction, Colorado, it has added this $27 million Utah facility to expand its production capabilities. This facility is aimed at developing SkyTrac chairlifts, which are solely fixed-grip chairlifts. At its full capabilities, the manufacturing plant will have 120 employees. Additional phases could further expand the facility.
Daren Cole, president and CEO of Leitner-Poma of America, said the following during the grand opening:
“It’s a great day in Utah as we celebrate the opening of our newest, largest manufacturing facility in the U.S. The demand for this new facility is a reflection of the growth in the resort industry as well as the growing interest of urban planners to seek out new, alternative forms of clean transportation.”
Leitner-Poma isn’t the only lift manufacturer that’s growing its presence in Utah.
Ski Area Management reported earlier this month that Doppelmayr USA is planning to expand its headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. According to SAM, this 228,000-square-foot expansion will feature approximately “120,000 square feet of indoor production and warehouse space, 68,000 square feet of covered outdoor space, and a 40,000-square-foot office and training facility.”
“The current facility has served us well for over 20 years, but we are bursting at the seams,” said Katharina Schmitz, the President of Doppelmayr USA.
Doppelmayr is aiming to start construction in early 2025 and open the expansion in the middle of 2026.
