Flagstaff, Arizona — This offseason, the Arizona Snowbowl will be modernizing its large beginner learning area.
Last week, the Arizona Snowbowl announced that it is replacing the Aspen chairlift this summer. Installed initially on Snowbowl’s upper mountain in the 1960s, the Riblet fixed-grip double chairlift was moved down in the 1980s to service the beginner area.
A new Skytrac fixed-grip quad chairlift will replace the old Aspen chairlift. This chairlift’s base terminal will be placed 190 degrees north of its prior location. The top terminal will be located near the same location as its predecessor. The new chairlift will be faster, resulting in shorter ride times. Aspen will service beginner and intermediate terrain. The U.S. Forest Service originally approved this project in 2005.

Here’s what Tyler Gerhartz, the Marketing Manager at Arizona Snowbowl, told us about the development:
“We are excited to expand upon the largest beginner terrain in the Southwest! The new angle of the lift will take advantage of the natural fall line and introduce gladed tree runs for beginner and intermediate riders.”
The new chairlift is expected to open during the 2024-25 season.
