Building a cable car system.
Building a cable car system.

SCHILTHORN, Switzerland – I can’t be the only one obsessed with European cable car systems. Sometimes taking people from village-to-village, sometimes just taking people to mountain summits, these well thought-out forms of public transportation seem to exceed anything we have in the United States. Plus, they’re stunning in both their own looks and in the views you get when you ride them. The massive Schilthornbahn20XX project, once it’s finished, will likely be a peak cable car experience.

Experience first hand how gearboxes and drive components for the Funifor Mürren-Birg are assembled in the Schilthornbahn20XX project! From pre-assembly in Goldau to precise assembly at the final location – every step counts. Immerse yourself in the world of cable cars, where every gram of iron and every component plays its role. Find out how targeted cooling and heating processes can achieve millimeter-precise fits so that everything fits together perfectly in the end. An exciting insight into the generational project in which teamwork and precision are crucial.

The Schilthornbahn 20XX project envisages a classic aerial tramway between Stechelberg and Mürren with a capacity of 800 people per hour. The freight and luggage logistics on this route are to be fully automated. Above Mürren, Funifor cable cars will connect the Birg and Schilthorn stations. The Funifor system impresses with its high wind stability and enables compact station construction.

The Schilthornbahn 20XX project reduces the ride from Stechelberg to Schilthorn down to three sections from the current four. A conventional cable car system connects Stechelberg to Mürren, while single track Funifor cable cars will connect Mürren to Birg and Birg to Schilthorn. The current travel time from Stechelberg to Schilthorn is 32 minutes. With the Schilthornbahn 20XX project completed, that time will be reduced to 22. And the Schilthorn will be accessible all year round.
