Anders Backe's insane backwards skiing speed world record

NORWAY – Since it’s the middle of the summer, and we’re all foaming at the mouth to see some serious ski content, now’s a good time to go back and look at some of the best moments from this past winter. It would be an absolute shame if we failed to mention Anders Backe‘s insane backwards skiing speed world record, which he set in Vikersund, Buskerud, Norway, back in March. His speed? 133.46 km/h, or 82.92 mph.

The previous record was set by Elias Ambüehl in 2017 at 81.54 mph. Backe initially held the record after setting it at 79.97 mph back in 2012, but he had to claim it once again.

I don’t know if I could go 82.92 mph forwards on my skis, not to mention throwing a 180 while cooking down a ski jump, and then reaching 82.92 mph switch. Absolutely insane record by Backe, we’re eager to see if someone can break it again. Ambüehl, maybe it’s your time to shine?
