VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Arc’teryx debuted their ‘Walk Gently’ platform, celebrating the xÊ·məθkÊ·É™y̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sÉ™lilwÉ™taɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples, with a collection created by Cole Sparrow-Crawford, from Musqueam in the Coast Salish region. The platform aims to share and elevate the work and stories of Indigenous artists through their own voices and perspectives.
The ‘Walk Gently’ collection by Cole Sparrow-Crawford features seven pieces inspired by the indigenous people of the Coast Salish territory in the Pacific Northwest. The collection is placed into three sub-collections, ‘Taking to the Waters’, ‘What the Land Gives’, and ‘From the Salish Sea’.
“Inspired by the spring and summer traditions on the Coast Salish territory, this collection reflects the deep connection my people have with our land. From the water to the mountains, our way of life has been embedded in this place—our traditions born from the landscapes. These designs were created to honor that connection.” Cole Sparrow-Crawford
Shorts and tees inspired by cedar trees and canoe building make up ‘Taking to the Waters’, while ‘From the Salish Sea’ places a salmon skin print on the Arc’teryx Beta, highlighting both technical design and the Coast Salish people’s connection to the land. ‘What the Land Gives’ celebrates both harvesters and the land through tees, a hat, and a backpack, while a blanket works to reflect the Salish weavers that have worked hard to keep the tradition alive today.
Cole Sparrow-Crawford’s ‘Walk Gently’ collection can be purchased in select stores only. In the United States, the collection can be found in a few stores in California, a few stores in New York, a store in Seattle, a store in Chicago, and a store in Boulder.
