The architecture of ski resort cable car terminals is quite often impersonal and utilitarian but whoever designed the base station for the Sljeme Cable Car in Zagreb, Croatia definitely had an eye for the dramatic. The polygonal inspired structure stands in striking juxtaposition to the beautiful natural surrounding of Medvednica and its peak Sljeme. Passengers are greeted with incredible foyer featuring soaring vaulted ceiling capped with skylights and light fixtures that hang like icicles before stepping about one of 84 ten-passenger gondolas to enjoy a 15 minute ride to the top. The overall impact of the design is undeniable, making the Sljeme Cable Car a worthy destination year round.
