While many of us may dream of hiking in Europe, it’s important to understand how it differs from hiking in the United States. Europe’s history is deeper and significantly more visible than the United States’ history, and while you might have a hard time getting deep into the wilderness in Europe, that’s easy to find in the United States. Adventure meal company Greenbelly lays out the necessary to know differences.

The biggest difference seems to be trail access and the concepts of private property. While the U.S. is strict on who-owns-what-land, many countries in Europe allow people to walk over whatever land they want. At the same time, though, the U.S. has a ton more camping access than much of Europe. There are absolutely positives and negatives to both.
