ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A man from Homer, Alaska who was attempting to take photos of two newborn moose calves was attacked and killed by their mother on Sunday. The man was identified as 70-year-old Dale Chorman.

NBC reports the female moose had recently given birth to the calves in Homer.

“As they were walking through the brush looking for the moose, that’s when the cow moose attacked Dale.” -Alaska Department of Public Safety Spokesperson, Austin McDaniel

The attack occurred as the two were running away. The second man was uninjured. The second man did not witness the attack and cannot say if the moose killed Chorman by kicking or stomping him, or a combination.

Medics pronounced Chorman dead at the scene. According to a post made the Alaska State Troopers, the cow moose left the area.
