Are you a steep skier looking to shred challenging terrain? Opportunities to do so this season are getting scarce, but it’s never too early to start planning next winter’s vacation.
If you’re looking for help finding a steep mountain to ski at, YouTuber Matthew Bennett has traveled across the continent, visiting many world-class ski areas. In 2022, he made a viral video called the Top 5 Steepest Ski Areas in North America. His criteria for being in the top five includes him needing to visit the resort, the steepest terrain being lift-accessible (not hike-to), and the length of these runs. This list comprised Alta, Big Sky, Jackson Hole, Taos, and Snowbird.
Last week, he released an updated version of the list, which removes Alta and adds Kicking Horse. It should be noted that a few notable mountains are missing from this list, including Aleyska and Silverton, as he doesn’t include mountains he hasn’t visited yet.
