“We are finally open, it’s fantastic to have the lifts spinning and the guests back up on the mountain.”– Jessi Wood, General Manager of Blacktail Mountain.
Since 1998, Blacktail Mountain has been one of the most under-the-radar ski areas in Montana. Unfortunately, like most of the ski areas in The Treasure State, a lack of snow meant a delayed opening this season.
On Sunday, January 14th, Blacktail had its opening day. They then reopened on Wednesday for the start of the start of their daily operations. According to KPAX, this was their latest opening ever. Before this season, their latest opening was back in 2004, when they opened on December 26th. The delayed opening was due to a lack of snow and very cold temperatures.
Jessi Wood, who’s the General Manager of Blacktail Mountain, explained her frustration to KPAX about the season so far:
“It’s been rough. I mean, we work really hard every year to get our small ski reopened for this community. And when we can’t do it because we’re missing snow, it’s extremely frustrating…Just never stopped doing that snow dance. We’re not there yet. Everybody’s a little bit nervous about these winter storm conditions. I say bring it on. Keep on dancing.”
If only there was a scientific reason to explain why a bunch of ski resorts had a slow start to their season…
Blacktail will be closed today and tomorrow but will reopen for lift-serviced skiing and riding on Wednesday.
