In honor of their 75th anniversary, Mt. Sunapee Resort in New Hampshire has added a cool new attraction to their learning area.
Last Thursday, Mount Sunapee had the grand opening of their ski-thru lighthouse. The lighthouse is situated over at South Peak. The inspiration for the structure comes from Lake Sunapee being home to three of the five active lighthouses in the state of New Hampshire.
The construction and placement of the lighthouse were thanks to the hard work of Shayne Cashin, Cole Stetson, Mak Maniscalchi, Larry Nelson, Brent Fagan, Jason Rook, and Sarah Lenau.
“I’m so grateful to our team, who continue to work hard to provide a great experience for our guests,” said Peter Disch, who’s the general manager of Mount Sunapee, in a statement to Boston.com. “There is something special about Mount Sunapee and how it transcends skiing and riding, and I am honored to be celebrating Mount Sunapee’s diamond anniversary this year and putting into place the ski-through lighthouse that was inspired by the iconic lighthouses on Lake Sunapee.”
While I was skiing at Sunapee yesterday, I made a brief stopover at South Peak to check out the lighthouse. I really like the attention to detail on the exterior, and it’s a fun thing to ski through. My only critique is I think they should make a painting of Lake Sunapee in the interior of the lighthouse.
It should be pointed out that this is not the first ski-thru building at a New Hampshire ski resort, as relatively nearby neighbor Ragged Mountain Resort has a ski-thru barn. I feel like having a ski-thru attraction shouldn’t be an exclusive thing to just one place though, so it’s something that should be added to more ski resorts.
