A key to a successful ski hill is a thorough fall mow.
This is especially true at Mt. Eustis Ski Hill in Littleton, New Hampshire. After being closed since the 1980s, the ski hill reopened during the 2016-17 season. Mt. Eustis doesn’t have snowmaking, so they need natural snow and a very well-mowed slope to be successful.
Thankfully, there are a lot of local mountains around, so getting assistance on projects isn’t a huge challenge. Last week, the good folks over at Cannon Mountain came by to mow the ski slope at Mt. Eustis. They come by each year to mow the mountain, among other projects they do to help them out. Cannon even allows them to host a Snow Dance at the ski resort, which is happening on December 2nd.
This isn’t the only time Mt. Eustis has been helped out by a local ski resort. Last winter, they received a snow groomer from Attitash Mountain Resort, which helped improve snow surface quality.
It’s important to keep mountains like Mt. Eustis open, as it provides an affordable option for locals. For one, tickets only cost $5. Secondly, its ski loaner program gives locals the chance to rent skis, boots, and bindings for $20.
Stories like this typically go under the radar, but they prove that a special camaraderie exists between operators of these mountains. To use an overused and potentially cringe-worthy line: teamwork makes the dream work.
