CBS Colorado the incident happened around 6pm last Thursday. Member of Durango Fire & Rescue responded to the scene and dug out the victims. The exact conditions that led to the slide have not specified but Durango Fire & Rescue’s Karola Hanks said that snow in the area has been coming in waves and freeze-thaw pattern has led to the buildup on rooftop known as “snow dams.” These snow dams create dangerous layers of fresh snow piled on top of frozen snow and can lead to roof slides.
If you notice similar build ups on your roof, make sure to stay clear of them and do not attempt to clear them from below.
