You know what’s a great way to convince yourself to stay on a treadmill for 55 minutes? Watch the Freeride World Tour stop at Kicking Horse live while running/walking/whatever. I know this, of course, because that’s exactly what I was doing while the competition was going on this year.

I’m sure if anyone was watching me run, they probably would have gotten a good laugh out of the faces I was making in reaction to the INSANE things then went down during the men’s skiing (there was insane stuff in every category, that’s just the one I watched on the treadmill…)

20-year-old Max Hitzig took first place after sending a MASSIVE backflip, and he definitely deserved the win, but the run that took my breath away the most (and caused me to have the best reaction for unknowing onlookers at the gym) has to be 18-year-old Marcus Goguen‘s second place run.

Back to back to back airs (with one little bounce thrown in the middle, so maybe back to back to back to back). Clean 360, little bounce, big air, quick readjustment, HUGE backflip. All with a maximum of 3 seconds touching snow in between. So quick, so rowdy, so incredible.

With Hitzig only 20-years-old and Goguen only 18, I think the future of freeride competitions is looking pretty solid…
