Eileen Gu Wins First Halfpipe Competition Since Taking Gold In Beijing

“It’s been 11 and a half months since I’ve competed and coming out of the Olympics, obviously it’s difficult to follow that up pressure wise, but I think it’s been so much fun. I’ve been rediscovering all this love that I have for the sport. I love it more now than ever.” -Eileen Gu

Competing for the first time since winning double gold in halfpipe and big air for the People’s Republic of China at the Beijing Olympics, Eileen Gu took the top spot at the halfpipe World Cup event yesterday in Calgary.

The 19-year-old Stanford student sat out the season opener World Cup competition at Copper and currently sits third overall in rankings but if she keeps throwing down performances like last night that will be sure to improve.

“Juggling skiing with my first year of college is a brand new challenge this year. I’m just trying to do what I love and enjoy the whole process, and not put too much pressure on myself.”
