A Russian skier is feeling lucky to be alive after triggering a massive avalanche near Gladen’kaya in Russia’s Khakassia Mountains, which is a popular freeriding area.
The video below, which was originally posted in November, shows the skier disappearing as he releases a massive cornice.
A cornice is an overhanging ridge of snow on the top of a mountain.

This video is a classic example of an uneducated backcountry skier making an easily-avoidable mistake.
Anybody with a lick of backcountry knowledge would know to never, and I mean NEVER, ski or walk out on a cornice of this magnitude.
