If you’re considering hitting the links of Colorado between now and around mid-October, here is a friendly heads up to super cautious if you encounter elk on the course.

The following incident occurred in early October 2020 when a man in a golf cart atย Evergreen Golf Course was gored by a large bull elk. The golfer took an antler to the kidney and ended up in the ICU. Thankfully he recovered from his injuries and maintained a sense of humor about the violent encounter.

Take this as a cautionary tale and a reminder that no matter how docile or domesticated elk may appear, they are wild animals and it only takes a split second for them to do incredible damage. The rut is upon us. Stay safe out there.
