If you’ve ever wanted to own a ski area in Maine that lets you live in an apartment on the mountain, here’s your chance. The Bangor Daily News reports that the sixty-seven-and-a-half-acre Hermon Mountain is for sale. Priced at $5 million, the ski area has been a community staple in the town of Hermon for decades. Since the Whitcomb family bought the mountain in 1988, they have added a refurbished double chairlift, snowmaking, night skiing, and tubing, along with expanding their base lodge. Another perk is the potential to add an apartment to the second floor of the base lodge. Jessica Wiltbank, the Listing Broker, describes the benefits of buying the ski area as follows:

“It is 67.5 acres total with room for expansion. Everything goes with it. All the equipment. All the equipment that is rented out to skiers, everything. It’s a turn-key sale…There’s a lot of local pride in Hermon Mountain. Really in all of Eastern and Central Maine, there’s really nowhere else to go skiing that’s easy access out of Bangor. Hermon Mountain is an important part of the community. It’s not just a place to go ski, but it’s a gathering place for people.”

The ski area is the only active hill in the Bangor Area. There used to be more than ten ski areas around Bangor, but the only one that remains is Hermon Mountain. In terms of next season, the ski area confirmed to me that they are planning to operate for the 2022-23 regardless as to whether they are sold or not. You can view the listing here.
