New Eaglecrest Gondola May Not Open Until Fall 2024

Don’t expect to see the pulse gondola that’s being shipped to Eaglecrest in Juneau, Alaska to be open anytime soon. The Juneau Empire reports that the shipping process has begun from Austria, where the gondola is currently located, to Alaska. Located at the Galsterberg Ski Resort, a five-thousand-mile journey awaits. They are shipping the parts of the lift by trucks and rail to the port town of Rotterdam. Once on a shipping container boat, it will travel down and through the Panama Canal, and pass through Seattle to get through customs. It will then be passed off to Alaska Marine Lines, who will bring it to the ski area. The sailing process is expected to take seven to eight weeks.

Once it arrives in Alaska, a quick build isn’t expected. The first containers of the gondola could arrive in early to mid-September, so getting it assembled ready for this season is practically impossible. Due to supply chain struggles and the labor shortage, the completion of the gondola may not be finished until the fall of 2024. In the meantime, Eaglecrest is adding a new overnight cabin for guests, and has started a fundraising campaign to expand their electric vehicle charging site. Image Credits: Eaglecrest Ski Area, Juneau Empire
