PlanetSki is reporting that Mölltaler Gletscher in Austria has made the decision to not open their glacier for summer skiing and snowboarding.

The resort has not stated why the glacier will not open this summer, but it follows a trend of other European ski resorts limiting or even canceling summer skiing due to climate change.

The news comes just days after Val d’Iserse (France) announced that their glacier would not open for summer skiing due to poor snow conditions.

It seems like summer skiing on European glaciers might be coming to an end entirely. There are still a few resorts open across the continent, but it seems likely that warmer temps will continue to pose challenges to the summer glacier skiing resorts.

It might be time to start thinking about booking that dream summer ski trip to Europe over the next couple of years before you won’t be able to at all.
