Ski industry legend Scott Gaffney (@scottgaffski) has been reunited with a ski he lost during a brutal fall on McConkey’s (formally known as Eagle’s Nest) at Palisades Tahoe back in April.

Gaffney decided to hit the challenging line after a late-season storm dumped a significant amount of snow. Gaffney described the conditions as “perfect”.

Unfortunately, Gaffney crashed spectacularly and ended up in the hospital with a broken scapula, a collapsed lung requiring a chest tube, and numerous gnarly bruises.

Gaffney has made a quick recovery, and shared yesterday that he hiked back up to McConkey’s yesterday to recover his lost gear. Here’s what he said:

“I inadvertently littered on the mountain a month and a half ago, and I finally got to go pick it up. Props to my K2 Reckoner for sending the 30’+ exit cliff of Eagles’ Nest all by itself sometime during the melt.”

Pretty sweet that Gaffney was able to recover his ski. I’m not sure what his plans are, but I think he needs to hang that sucker on a wall to remember his harrowing experience on McConkey’s.

Check out the crash video below just in case you need a refresher:

Cheers to Gaffney for making a speedy recovery.

Here’s to hoping McConkey’s goes again next season, and that his next attempt doesn’t end as abruptly… 😂
