One of Purgatory Resorts’ most historic buildings is for sale. This five-bedroom, four-bathroom property is within one hundred yards of the entrance of Purgatory Resort in Durango, Colorado. Some of the amenities include “billiards, ping pong, foosball, fire pit, 2 spacious living areas, a full kitchen, a kitchenette, and a wet bar and a grand 2-sided wood burning river rock fireplace that used to be a centerpiece of the dining experience.”

The building opened in 1969 as the Purgatory Inn(pictured above). Many restaurants have been in the space over the past couple of decades: “the Elk Run Lodge, Alpenhauf Tatzer, Buckskin Charlie’s, Sweeney’s Sows Ear, Powder Monkey, Hamilton Chop House, and then the Last Run Grill-Pub-Cafe.” In 2018, a remodel converted the building into a vacation rental, and there are further repurposing opportunities that are possible. For the last couple of years, the building has served as an Airbnb, which you can view here.

Are there nicer homes in Durango? For sure, but you don’t get the historical significance as you do with this property. You can view the listing here, and a video tour of the property is below…
