Utah Snow Survey Supervisor and hydrologist Jordan Clayton is cautiously optimistic as the new water year has started off with a bang in Utah.
The new water year started on October 1st, and while experts say it will take years of above-average snowfall before Utah climbs out of the current drought, Clayton is hopeful that the recent snow storms are a good omen.
The current levels of Utah’s soil moisture are a sign that snowmelt and run-off next season could fill reservoirs and bodies of water and not just soak into the dry ground like they did earlier this calendar year.
Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet, but think are looking positive, at least for now, in Utah. Here’s to hoping there’s a good snow year on the way for The Beehive State! They need it.
