Got kind of a different video for you here heading into the the 4th of July weekend, and it seems fitting that the subject is an iconic symbol of The United States of America. Boaters were treated to a rare sight of a bald eagle swimming to shore near Juneau, Alaska.

Bald eagles will sometimes swim to shore when they’ve caught prey that is too heavy to fly away with according to Julia Craves, supervisor of aviation research at the Rogue River Bird Observatory.

It’s hard to tell at the end of the video if the eagle has something in its claws, what do you think?

I’ve seen quite a few bald eagles in my life, but had no idea they could swim so well. That was a fairly impressive butterfly stroke if you ask me.

Bald eagles really are one of the most majestic creatures. ‘Merica!
