According to 9News, Patricia Cameron is setting out to hike all 485 miles of The Colorado Trail to encourage minorities to experience the great-outdoors.

Cameron is the Executive Director of a nonprofit organization called Blackpackers. The organization’s mission is to show African-Americans, and other minorities, how wonderful Colorado’s mountainous terrain is.
Cameron founded the organization after she noticed the lack of African-Americans that she saw out on the trail. Blackpackers helps minorities by introducing them to the outdoors. They also work to subsidize the cost of gear.

What a great mission. I hope that Cameron can continue to build interest in the outdoors with minorities and others. Imagine living in Colorado and either not knowing about hiking, or simply not having the resources to make it happen…
I wish her well and I will be following along at her twitter handle!
