A 12 foot Great White shark was spotted circling a kayaker in Monterey Bay, Californa just hours after a fatal shark attack occurred on 5/9/2020. The incident involved a 26-year-old male surfer who was attacked and killed by a shark while surfing in Santa Cruz County.

The coroner’s office identified the deceased as Ben Kelly, a well-known surfer within the Santa Cruz surfing community.

In the video description, posted by Giancarlo Thomae, Giancarlo states that this is not the same shark involved in the attack. Thomae’s Instagram profile lists him as a “UC Santa Cruz Marine Biologist, Naturalist, and Conservationist,”

Shark attack fatalities are extremely rare. Saturday’s attack was the first deadly incident in Northern California since 2004.
