The El Dorado County’s board of supervisors has passed an emergency ordinance that authorizes local police to issue $1,000 fines to people traveling into the Tahoe Basin area for nonessential purposes.

This includes nonresidents staying in vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe.

According to Tahoe Daily Tribune, the order gives teeth to a “no-travel” order brought down by county health officer Dr. Nancy Williams earlier this month.

The emergency ordinance will remain in effect throughout the stay-at-home order if the directive is extended beyond April 30.

The city of South Lake Tahoe, CA created its own $1,000 fine that includes people staying in vacation rentals. According to interim Police Chief Shannon Laney, the city of South Lake Tahoe, CA has already written 3 citations.
