This past weekend, a woman jumped from an airplane with a parachute that failed to open. The woman fell more than 5,000 feet to the ground at terminal velocity.

Witnesses on the ground watched in fear and disbelief as the woman plummeted through the air and hit the ground.

The woman, who had been skydiving before, made her solo leap with the Parachutisme Adrenaline operation near Trois-Rivières, Quebec.

The 30-year-old, whose name has not been released, hit a patch of trees and landed in a wooded area. It’s likely that the canopy of the trees she fell into broke her fall, saving her life.

To everyone’s amazement, she only suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including broken vertebrae and several fractures, but is currently recovering in a hospital and expected to make a full recovery, CBC reports.
