Thousands of Tarantulas Expected To Crawl Through Colorado In Coming Weeks

If you are at the intersection of being a Coloradian and arachnophobic you may want to steer clear of Comanche National Grassland south of La Junta off U.S. Highway 109 because thousands of creepy crawlers are set to descend on the area in the coming weeks.

News 9 reports the annual migration of the Oklahoma Brown Tarantula is expected to begin this month through early October and will peak in mid-September.  Arachnologists say the majority of the spiders are 10-year-old males looking to mate with females hidden in Colorado’s grasslands.

We understand people having an instinctual fear of spiders but officials want you to know tarantulas are mostly harmless to humans. If you’re interested it could be a cool opportunity to hike around see some wild tarantulas and if you’re phobic its easily avoidable.
