The ski resort town of Steamboat Springs, CO has installed 10 parking meters on trails to allow hikers and bikers on nonmotorized trails to donate to trail maintenance on the spot.

The credit card operated parking meters except a minimum contribution of $5. All donations will go to The Trail Maintenance Endowment Fund. The foundation says it hopes to raise $1 million to $1.5 million by 2026 for trail maintenance. A foundation official says the endowment currently has just under $500,000.

How to donate: You can donate by inserting your credit card into one of the orange parking meters on the Yampa River Core Trail, Emerald Mountain or the Spring Creek Trail. Use the buttons to make a donation of $5 or more. You can also give online at yvcf.org/trails.
