A gondola accident in Engelberg, Switzerland has resulted in the death of a worker with others injured. Two of the injured workers are in a serious condition.

The workers were conducting routine work on the Titlis-Express lift when cable supports gave way and the cables that hold the cars hit a group of workers.

The lift was not open to the public at the time of the accident.

It is unclear whether it was caused by human error or mechanical failure. The lift remains closed and an investigation is underway.

The Chairman of Titlis lift company, Hans Wicki, has said it is “blackest day in the history of the company”.
