Today = Powder Day For Colorado!

6 -8inches of dense snow fell late Sunday evening in just 3-4 hours at many front range ski areas of Colorado (A-Basin, Mary Jane, Loveland).   Temps were primarily in the mid to upper 20’s above 10K for  most of the event creating dense snow at all elevations.    Flashback to Winter:  I-70 was closed temporarily in Frisco due to multiple accidents.  US 6 Loveland Pass was also closed last evening.  Precipitation has tapored off in the mountains and will pick up again this afternoon into Tuesday morning.  Temps will remain in the mid 20’s at upper elevations with near freezing at 7K.  Sunny skies this morning will add to the density that fell last night.

Models are pumping out significant moisture between late Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning in many mountain locations in Colorado.

Temps are going to push snow into the Front Range by late Monday night however amounts will be limited on the paved surfaces (No major impacts).

The highest amounts noted on the GFS are 2 inches of water.    With warming and low snow ratios, expect another 7-10 inches for the mountains with your 1st chair on Tuesday being the deepest chase.   There will be a break on Tuesday with another shortwave moving through Colorado late PM into Wednesday.  The late Monday to Tuesday event shows some variance on the models so it’s possible that even higher amounts are reported by 8AM Tuesday morning.  The ranges are between 6-15 inches between late Monday and early Tuesday.  I’m sticking to 7-9 inches on the snow report Tuesday morning (Some may be from late Monday).   Open areas are Mary Jane, A-Basin, Loveland, Breckenridge.    

Higher amounts are likely to fall along the Collegiate Peaks to the south of Summit County, Sawatch range, and into the eastern San Juan ranges near Wolf Creek (10-15).

Wednesday will offer another chance to ride powder albeit lighter (2-4) as snow continues (Tuesday night).  

Bottom Line:   Ride 6 inches of dense freshies Monday at most Front Range  resorts today.   Ride 7-11 inches of medium to desne snow Tuesday morning (Temps may warm by 9AM).  Ride 2-4 inches of medium density snow Wednesday morning (cooler).

No complaining!  It’s late April and some of us are still riding powder!
